The Wither Storm is designed to grow, and a bigger boss plus lots of moving blocks costs performance. These adjustments keep the later stages playable on typical hardware.
Why it gets heavy
As the encounter escalates, the game has to render a very large entity, simulate blocks and creatures being pulled in and keep more of the world active. Both your graphics card and, especially, your CPU and memory feel the difference.
Memory allocation
Forge setups often benefit from more memory than vanilla's default. In the Minecraft Launcher, edit the Forge installation, open More options and change the -Xmx value in the JVM arguments.
-Xmx4Gis a reasonable starting point for a light modded game.- Larger modpacks may want 6 to 8 GB if your computer has plenty to spare.
- Don't hand Minecraft most of your system memory. Leave enough for the operating system, or performance can get worse.
Video settings
| Setting | Suggestion |
|---|---|
| Render distance | Lower it first. 8 to 12 chunks is often a good balance during the fight. |
| Graphics | Switch to Fast for the encounter. |
| Entity shadows | Turning them off can help. |
| Particles | Set to Decreased or Minimal. |
| Max framerate | Cap it near your monitor's refresh rate to reduce heat and stutter. |
If you add performance mods, confirm they support your exact Forge and Minecraft version and test them together before a big session.
The mod's config
After the first launch, Forge creates configuration files in your game's config folder, and servers also keep per-world settings in the world's serverconfig folder. Open the mod's file in a text editor to see what your version allows you to change. Options vary by release, so change one thing at a time and keep a copy of the original file.
On servers
- Use
/forge tpsto check ticks per second during the encounter; 20 is full speed. - Keep view distance in
server.propertiesmodest for event days. - Restart the server before the event so it starts fresh.
- Make a backup, because a laggy fight is still a destructive one.
