How to Defeat the Wither Storm with the Formidi-Bomb
Beating the Wither Storm in survival is a project, not a single fight. This guide lays out the full route in the order you will actually do it, based on the progression used in recent versions of Crackers Wither Storm Mod. Recipes can shift between versions, so confirm details with the in-game recipe book when something does not match.

Resources to collect
Community testing puts the minimum raw materials for the whole route at roughly:

Collect extra of everything. Deaths near the storm are common, and blaze rods mean a Nether fortress trip you will not want to repeat.
Beating the Withered Symbiont
The Withered Symbiont is summoned by the command block inside the storm, and it only appears once the storm reaches the end of phase 5. Use a Phasometer to check whether the storm has reached that point before you travel.
- Set your spawn close to the fight but outside the storm's reach.
- Bring your best armour, healing food and a ranged weapon.
- Fight on ground you know, away from cliffs, water and lava.
- When it dies, collect the Command Block Book immediately.
Crafting and using the Formidi-Bomb
Step 1: Super TNT
Craft the Command Block Book into Super TNT at a crafting table. Check the recipe book for the exact layout in your version.
Step 2: Formidi-Bomb
Place Super TNT in the centre of the crafting grid, gunpowder in the four corners and blaze powder in the four side slots.
The timer starts when you craft it. By default you have 600 seconds, which is ten minutes, before detonation. The countdown length can be changed in the mod's settings. Plan your route to the storm before you craft.
Step 3: Delivery
- Travel to the storm with the bomb.
- Place the Formidi-Bomb near it and light it with flint and steel.
- Run. The blast radius is very large.
The storm picks up the bomb. When it gets closer to the storm, a colour-splitting screen effect grows stronger, then the explosion hits and the storm reacts. This moves it past phase 5 rather than ending the whole fight.
Breaking the core
A second Command Block Book can be combined with a vanilla tool to make a command block tool with infinite durability. On 1.19.4 this is done at a smithing table, and on 1.20.1 at an anvil, which is why you need iron for an anvil.
In the final phase a hole opens in the storm's body, exposing the command block at its centre. Reach it and break it with your command block tool. That is the true weak point of the Wither Storm.
Tips that save runs
- Back up the world before crafting the bomb. A missed delivery costs a lot of progress.
- Build a pillar or bridge route to the storm in advance.
- In multiplayer, split roles: one player carries the bomb, others handle mobs.
